A type of blood cancer that occurs in the plasma cells in which accumulated cancerous plasma cells crowd out the healthy plasma cells from the bone marrow is known as Multiple Myeloma.

Treatment

  • Targeted therapy - There are specific genes or proteins that cancer cells need to grow and these genes are blocked with the help of drugs.
  • Stem cell transplant - New stem cells are inserted in the blood to replace the damaged cells.

Duration of treatment

Multiple myeloma treatment usually lasts up to two years. After two years, doctors may stop the treatment if it is not required.
