Treatment

  • By making one long incision in the abdomen, the prostate gland is removed.
  • Radiation therapy
  • External beam radiation therapy is used to kill cancer cells in those cases in which cancer is only limited to the prostate. It can also be used either to slow cancer’s growth or after surgery to reduce the risk of its reoccurrence.
  • Radiation is placed inside the body by placing radioactive sources in the prostate gland. It is one option for treating cancer that hasn’t spread beyond the prostate.
  • Freezing or heating prostate tissue
  • Cryoablation or cryotherapy for prostate cancer involves using a very cold gas to freeze and kill the prostate cancerous tissues.
