What is Medical Visa?
For foreign nationals wishing to seek medical treatment in other countries, the Medical Visa is travel authorization and approval for the individual to seek medical treatment legally.
A Medical visa is a short-term visa that is granted for medical treatment. Visas for medical attendants are available to accompany the Medical visa holder.
How does Medical Visa work?
Getting a medical visa is a simple procedure. Eligible individuals who seek to obtain medical care can quickly fill out the application form on the website of the Indian high commission in their respective countries by providing their full name, date, place of birth, address, contact information, and passport details.

Post that they are given appointments to visit and present documents including a treatment plan and visa invitation letter from the hospital they wish to get treatment. Post verification of documents the fee is paid and the visa is granted for the days mentioned in the treatment plan.
The process is relatively the same for e-visa wherein you don’t have to visit a high commission rather just have to fill online form and upload documents and upon verification, the visa is granted.
Applicants must be aware of the following to get an e-Medical visa:
- Applicants must be financially self-sufficient during their stay.
- During their stay, visitors must keep a copy of their approved Visa permit with them at all times.
- When applying for a Medical visa, visitors must have a returning or onward ticket.
- Regardless of age, all applicants must have their passports.
- The applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six months after the arrival.
